at night it's so quiet here

Really quiet in the middle of the night here. And black as pitch. I'm not used to it, but it's nice. My old room, where I lived from the time I was 7 until I was 18. It hasn't changed much since then. I'm glad I still get to sleep here in the summer.

heading north

I'm heading north for awhile to sleep in my old pink flowered bedroom and swim in this lake.
Have a good rest of the week. I'll be back in a bit...

the blues

Blue is my all-time favorite color. It's so summery! These blues are my current favorites in the shop.
Have a happy weekend!

plums + cherries

I had some very tart plums, a bag of cherries and a handful of blackberries. They became this summer fruit clafoutis. Here's how I did it:

3 ripe plums, sliced into slim wedges
about 20 cherries, pits left in
a handful of blackberries

3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons all-pupose flour
1/3 cup sugar
3 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Heat oven to 350 degrees F
Butter a shallow oven proof dish (I used a deep pie plate)
Spread fruit into dish
Mix flour and sugar in a large bowl
Mix eggs, milk and vanilla in another bowl
Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients, whisking batter until smooth
Pour batter over fruit mixture
Bake for 40-50 minutes until the batter is firm to the touch and golden on top
Serve warm or at room temperature
Enjoy!

in love

So in love with this quilt I found at the flea market. Oh, how I wish the lady who put this together knew how happy and honored I am to have it in my home! Each square is made from the most delightful bits of vintage fabric, each one a little different. There's even the date hand stitched into the corner, 1956. I'm just crazy about the whole thing.
Have a great weekend, all. I think there will be rain here, but not really a break in the heat.
Soooo....we are drinking lots of ice tea and having bread and cheese for dinner. Way too hot to cook.

moving slowly

Moving so slowly in this heat...slowly picking up the house while the children are at camp this week. Slowly sewing in my oven of a studio. Taking long reading and ice tea breaks in between.
Slow is good.

garden bouquet

Catching up on gardening the past few days. Weeding, tidying up, watering.
Roses, hydrangeas, lavender and lady's mantle are what's blooming right now.
