Tea Party

These cheerful old Japanese dollies live in my daughter's room. My grandfather brought them back from Japan for my mother in the 1950's when he was working there. So, this afternoon after school my kids and I will have a tea party. I'm going to make currant scones and tea, of course!

I absolutely love these! I actually saw some in a store in Paris and almost bought a couple.
May I ask what your grandfather was doing in Japan in the 50's? Did he bring more souvenirs?
(I fell in love with japan when my mum opened her souvenir-packed suitcase upon her return from a trip there...)

Yes, I've always loved these dolls too. My grandfather was a microbiologist doing research on disease control in Japan.
He brought back beautiful Japanese things...kimonos, little pink chopsticks, books, and these dolls...I think it sparked my lifelong interest in Japan. I hope your mom shared some of her Japanese souvenirs with you!
