holidaze

Here are a few of my favorite little Christmas ornaments. Right now I'm thinking about what kind of holiday sweets to make for friends. Nothing too complicated, but something delicious. What's your favorite holiday cookie?

After years of avoiding my mother's fruitcake (which involved those red gummy cherries), I became an absolute fruitcake fiend. No gummy fruit of any kind, just figs, dates, dried cherries, homemade candied orange peel, etc., spices, and a good soaking in bourbon. I dole them out to the other fiends I know (there are more of us than you'd think!) and they disappear very quickly!

As for cookies, I had a wonderful cookie at a friend's house the other day--it was a soft, sugary
molasses gingerbread cookie with chocolate chips in it. I was surprised at how nice the combination was.
