good-bye gourmet

So sad that Gourmet Magazine will no longer be published. I know others have been posting about it, but I had to post something, I mean, we have had a subscription to Gourmet for almost ten years and every month I have looked forward to its arrival, the beautiful photography, and the delicious recipes. I cook from it all the time, infact it's what saves us from having boring dinners. And I always read Ruth Reichl's letter from the editor, she is my favorite food writer. At least I have held on to my favorite issues and recipes for the past couple of years.
Gourmet, I will miss you so much!

So a well read and renown magazine is finished. It might be only a beginning when well-doing business are crushing one after the other.

I am saddened by what this all means... As much as I love to look at things online, the experience of holding a magazine (or a book, for that matter) is just not the same as looking at a screen and clicking on keys... I realize the publishing world is changing, and change is inevitable... I'm just not so sure the change we're talking about here is an improvement...

thanks for your thoughtful comments, everyone. it really makes you think about the us economy and publishing in general that an icon is going away. i too love to curl up with something paper in my hands for a good read. and it's just not the same to follow a recipe from a computer screen.
